{"id":630,"date":"2012-04-27T05:45:15","date_gmt":"2012-04-27T05:45:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oert.org\/?p=630"},"modified":"2023-01-31T13:38:23","modified_gmt":"2023-01-31T13:38:23","slug":"typographic-anatomy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oert.org\/en\/typographic-anatomy\/","title":{"rendered":"Typographic anatomy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"box autor\">Created by: Natalia Fern\u00e1ndez<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"box note\"><span class=\"dashicons dashicons-warning\"><\/span>&nbsp;&nbsp;Art\u00edculo en proceso de traducci\u00f3n <\/div>\n<h3>Glossary<\/h3>\n<div class=\"glosario\"><p>\n\n<strong>apophyge: <\/strong>small curved part, usually \u00bc circle, which connects the main stem with the terminals or serifs.\n\n<strong>arm:<\/strong> horizontal stroke that is free at one end.\n\n<strong>bowl: <\/strong>it refers to the loops that lean on the baseline.\n\n<strong>cross: <\/strong>horizontal stroke in the letters \u00abT\u00bb, \u00abt\u00bb and \u00abf\u00bb.\n\n<strong>crossbar: <\/strong>horizontal stroke in the letters \u00abe\u00bb, \u00abf\u00bb, \u00abt\u00bb, \u00abA\u00bb, \u00abH\u00bb and \u00abT\u00bb.\n\n<strong>ear: <\/strong>small stroke that comes out of the head of the closed tail lower case \u00abg\u00bb.\n\n<strong>elbow: <\/strong>90\u00ba joint formed between the straight strokes of the \u00abG\u00bb.\n\n<strong>encounter: <\/strong>Abrupt joint of two strokes that intersect at a point.\n\n<strong>eye: <\/strong>embossing of the type that stick out of the shoulder, which, impregnated with ink, produces the imprint.\n\n<strong>flourish: <\/strong>stroke.\n\n<strong>foot: <\/strong>see leg.\n\n<strong>head:<\/strong> it refers to the upper part of the sign.\n\n<strong>hook: <\/strong>curved and closed stroke. teardrop: End usually found in the curved strokes in the head of some lower case, for instance the \u00aba\u00bb, la \u00abf\u00bb and the \u00abc\u00bb.\n\n<strong>interior counterform: <\/strong>space which is totally or partially enclosed inside a letter.\n\n<strong>joint: <\/strong>gradual coming together of two strokes that meet to become one.\n\n<strong>leg: <\/strong>diagonal stroke that serves as support for some letters.\n\n<strong>loop:<\/strong> curved stroke that encloses a counterform.\n\n<strong>nail: <\/strong>small stroke, in the shape of a nail, which appears in some \u00abG\u00bb letters.\n\n<strong>neck: <\/strong>stroke that links the head with the tail in the \u00abg\u00bb.\n\n<strong>shoulder: <\/strong>part of the kind that is below the eye and which leaves no impression.\n\n<strong>stem: <\/strong>main stroke of the letter. \/\/ descender: has a calligraphic origin, it refers to the direction in which the stroke was made. Usually, descenders are thin and ascending ones are thick. ascender: see above.\n\n<strong>stroke: <\/strong>is each one of the strokes that conforms the letter.\n\n<strong>tail:<\/strong> descending stroke that makes \u00abQ\u00bb different from \u00abO\u00bb. It also applies to the descending stroke in \u00abg\u00bb.\n\n<strong>terminal: <\/strong>supplementary element of the stem in those letters that have it.
